Beltane is a truly joyful time in the Wheel of the Year. The High Spring celebrations are rooted in exuberance and an almost bawdy revelry as people get back to nature and enjoy earthly pleasures. It seems at about this time of year everyone is bursting with lusty motivation, passion, and a burning desire to do something (or someone)! It is a sexy time of year and worthy of lighthearted shenanigans as we welcome the abundance from the fertile earth and celebrate growth!
When looking at various cannabis strains for this Sabbat, I wanted to find something capable of helping you go wild as well as deliver some high energy magick as the veil thins, and so my old friend Sour Diesel was the perfect strain selection for this special time.
Sour Diesel is an energizing sativa-dominant strain that, just like Spring pushing away those last few lingering elements of winter, allows stress, pain and depression to fade away. Within minutes of smoking you will feel a rush of energy and joy along with a profound cerebral experience. You’ll have a desire to be on your feet and moving, or to get into the lascivious mood of the Sabbat with some sexy times, either solo or with your partner! Beltane celebrations can go on from morning to night, as you transition from daytime gardening and purifying your threshold and move into dalliances in the dark with bonfires and pleasure rituals. Therefore, you need a long-lasting strain that can keep you moving during this busy day!
Sour D can also give its users a dreamy, cerebral effect. For us witches, it is a perfect strain for Beltane when, like autumn’s Samhain, the veil between worlds is at its thinnest. This means it is a time to deepen our connection with the spirit world. Using cannabis along with meditation can assist with piercing the veil. Typically, I would recommend an Indica heavy strain for this type of activity, however Beltane is a celebration of life and I prefer to match my strain with the tones and energies of the Sabbat in order to create a greater mental and physical understanding of the ebbs and flows of the unseen energies of the season.
And so, whether you want celebrate Beltane connecting with your ancestors alone, or dancing in front of a blazing bonfire in titillating revelry with your coven, Sour Diesel’s uplifting and energizing properties will have you covered. If Sour Diesel is not available in your area, look for a similar strain that has a similar terpene profile or one that can deliver similar effects. I tend to gravitate to Durban Poison or Green Crack.

Scent: The name says it all. This strain smells uncannily like diesel fuel. It is pungent, dank but with a hint of both citrus and pine.
